Sounds about right, how about the cam timing?
Are you sure it's exactly right? If it's off a bit, it can cause the
symptoms youdescribe.

You say it was rebuilt recently, and injectors are new or overhauled, and
comperssion is good, so the major items are covered. 

What remains is enough air to burn off the fuel injected, the timing of
valves and injection, and the amount of peak fueling. 
(the screw with the stainless steel lock collar on it)

If you can turn it in a little, (clockwise) it will reduce the smoking, but
do nothing for the performance.

I'd say the issues are not enough air, or timing of valves or injection.
