[Vwdiesel] Difficulty to replace a clutch

(82' Rabbit diesel car)I have a pretty bad shutter when taking off in
1st gear which requires me to really ease into it to minimize the shake.
All other transitions are smooth.  My understanding is that replacing
the clutch and turning the flywheel should resolve the problem (have
previously replaced all motor mounts).  I have read through the project,
but have never replaced a clutch before in any vehicle.  Is this
something that a first timer can do with a book, or is this something to
look over the shoulder of a pro before trying one solo?  If an average
do-it-yourselfer can attempt, what special tools are must haves.
