Hi all,
I planned on installing new front oil seals on my 1985 1.6l TD engine
while I had it apart to replace the timing belt and tensioner. There were
signs the crankshaft front oil seal had been leaking. I loosened the bolt
holding the timing belt sprocket. Man, that thing was tight! When I removed the
timing belt sprocket I noticed the fit was poor and the key & keyway were
toast, as in hardly recognizable. Now I know why whoever worked on the engine
last, tightened the bolt so tight. I've checked ETKA and there is no part
number listed for the key between the crank and sprocket. It appears the engine
will have to be removed so the crankshaft can be removed and either replaced
or repaired.
Anyone have experience with this issue? Can the crankshaft be repaired?
