[Vwdiesel] smoking audi diagnosis

well, i appreciate all the diagnostic advice from everyone. i've driven the
car a couple times since reading the replies. i've noticed that the car is
a little rough at idle, and will smoke for at least a minute after
starting. the starting is difficult, as it has been since before any of the
recent work i've done. but now it still hesitates a bit even once the
engine gets going.
i'm thinking it's a combination of a bad exhaust guide, along with needing a
valve adjustment. though, with the new injectors, i hope that after fixing
this exhaust guide the car would start on the first couple cranks.
my mechanic thinks it'd be about 3.5-4 hours labor for a guide seal and
troubleshooting.
just hoping that's the right tree to bark up... the car's not worth a big
hunt.
