[Vwdiesel] Ignition switch.

Unless you are experienced with working on locks, ignition switches, etc., I would recommend having a mobile locksmith come out to do the work but call them first & get an estimate for the work & whether they are familiar with your car. My 2001 Ford Focus is my everyday car, at least until I can get the bugs out of my Quantum. The ignition switch on my Focus is a weak point. The local Ford dealer wanted over $400 to replace it. A local mechanic who I use for jobs I can't handle myself said he could change the ignition switch if I had the car towed to his place but he said the ignition key would no longer match. I don't think he knew it but he probably would have had trouble getting the new switch to work as there is a chip in the ignition key that has to be properly programmed. The local mobile locksmith charged me about $150 to replace the switch, make me an extra key that would work with the anti theft device. I think you would run into a similar problem with any later model VW that has any type of factory anti theft device.
