  Air bubbles in the clear line?  Sounds like it.

  I tend to agree on the ridge reaming since from new to wear limit 
you only have .0024 inch!  Any ridge you'll notice is more than 
that.  On the other hand most of the ridges people find in their 
VW diesels turn out to be 90%+ carbon buildup.
  I only got about 30K out of a re-ring on an old bore.  All were 
worn beyond spec except for one.
