Had my Quantum towed to a nearby hill today. Coasted down it & it started right up & idled smoothly. After a little trip to warm it up, I returned to the hill, turned the engine off to see if it would start. It wouldn't so I coasted down the hill & it started right up. It did not overheat so I think I have that problem solved with a new head gasket. However the oil pressure seems to be low. When hot it will rise to 40# psi but at idle, it drops to around 15 # psi. also, the oil pressure idiot lit would blink periodically & at the same time some type of noise would come from the dash which appears to be a low oil pressure warning. Also, it didn't seem to have the pep it used to have before when it would overheat, before I changed the head gasket & had the head resurfaced & the valves done. My guess is the timing may be off. When back in Auburn Hills I bought another timing dial indicator from The Parts Place as I had trouble with the previous one. When I turn the ignition switch off the engine stops quickly like it has good compression. Could heard starting, using the starter be due to the timing being off? I am also concerned about what appears to be low oil pressure. I am running Amsoil 15W 40 diesel oil. I previously installed some extra gages, a voltmeter, oil pressure gage, water temperature gage, pyrometer, & boost gage.
Comments, please.
