Yes the hard starting could be due to the timing off some. I found that if I listen to the timing while rotating the pump while running I can get mine and my brothers vw's to start better. But you have to be careful on that sense. Bottom line is yes timing makes a difference. With the oil pressure, your gauge may be off some but that sounds close to what I am at at full temps and idling. Really high pressure when cold and goes down to as low as yours when warm.
