[Vwdiesel] Engine out the bottom & topper

I have taken two engines out the bottom. One I had to as I didn't have a cherry picker. I took two jacks and disconnected the axles and motor mounts and radiator (for two nuts it is worth getting it out of the way). All the wiring and cables is pulled to the side. I then lowered the engine and tipped it off the jacks and then disconnected the tranny and pulled it out. I then pulled the head off and then tipped the engine over and pulled it out. All with a couple jacks and man power. I only did this as I was attempting to rebuild it in the apartment parking lot until the owner towed the car and I found a friends place to finish the rebuild. The other time my brother and I dropped the engine with a cherry picker and then used a fork lift to take the truck off the engine. The exhaust can get in the way so have another set of eyes. I can tell you that the other times I have taken the engine out the top it was much easier. I haven't installed the engine from under the car yet. I would find a way to take it out the top as it will save some time. If you have a strut brace you will need to remove that. Hope that helps.

I would mention if the topper is fiber glass or aluminum. Also if the windows are working and how many there are. Does it have a seal around it. May try Ebay also as that is where I found mine and sold one that I didn't want as most people will drive to pick one up if they want it bad enough.
