[Vwdiesel] What to look for to find a hydraulic lifter tap

Hi all, I finally had some time to spend on the 1.9na to get it ready for the newly rebuild 1.9na pump.
In the past few months before the 1.6na pump quit, I noticed a lifter tap when the motor was hot, but nothing when cold. This is a hydraulic head.
So, since I have it all apart I was going to remove the cam to inspect the lifters.
I had already replaced 2 lifters on exhaust #1 and exhaust #2 from when the motor had been timed wrong and cracked these 2 lifters from piston contact stress.
I was going to remove each one with a magnet and inspect for ?????
I have 8 new ones, should I not fart around and replace them all and keep these as "spares"
If I ever get the AAZ put together I can swap this new set over to that head, so the $60 I paid for the new lifters would not be wasted.
Suggestions please.
