[Vwdiesel] What to look for to find a hydraulic lifter tap

I would change them all out. That is what I did. I had a bad lifter tap when
I installed the new head that I had sitting in the attic for two years. It
turns out that the pressure from the cam sitting on some keeping the valves
open caused issues with the lifters not to pump up. I learned the hard way
and will always store a rebuilt head with the cam out if it.

Hi all, I finally had some time to spend on the 1.9na to get it ready for
the newly rebuild 1.9na pump.
In the past few months before the 1.6na pump quit, I noticed a lifter tap
when the motor was hot, but nothing when cold. This is a hydraulic head.
So, since I have it all apart I was going to remove the cam to inspect the
lifters.
I had already replaced 2 lifters on exhaust #1 and exhaust #2 from when the
motor had been timed wrong and cracked these 2 lifters from piston
contact stress.
I was going to remove each one with a magnet and inspect for ?????
I have 8 new ones, should I not fart around and replace them all and keep
these as "spares"
If I ever get the AAZ put together I can swap this new set over to that
head, so the $60 I paid for the new lifters would not be wasted.
Suggestions please.
