Brian:
I have a 924 (M471) that I have been waiting to take it's turn to become a diesel sports car for a couple of years. I will be using a 2.0 5 cyl from my Audi 5000 TD. It's almost a straight bolt-in,
The 914 has a nice gearbox, but not nice shifter. You MIGHT want to consider using an Audi 016 box from a 4 cyl FWD car (5 speeds of that are rare) or better yet, pick up a 2.0 5 banger and bolt it right up to the 016 with regular 5 cyl bolt pattern from an Audi 4000 or 90.
Good luck with it, will be a fun car no matter WHAT way you go.
Regards - Pat
