Bill,
Remember to slacken off the fuel lines at the pump end, after a series of 
pump movements to release strain on the lines.
Don't run cleaner through pump. Just remove offending injector and clean it 
by unscrewing body in a clean environment and dissembling. I use a little 
foam oven cleaner to melt away the carbon deposits, and a little cotton swab 
to wipe it up.
An injector tester is the way to go ideally. One can be made from a 
hydraulic car jack.

 One 'cheat' would be to install the fuellines to the pump, complete with 
injectors upside down. Plenty of rags to protect engine bay, and no 
smokeing. This will give a perfect picture of similarities of injector 
performance.

Video it whilst cranking. Also disconnect power to glowplugs...
