  You could math it out by taking the stroke, subtracting the piston 
projection, 
adding the depth from piston top to bottom of ring and measure that far 
down... 
Or you could just look in there with good light, after cleaning the 
cylinder good, 
and you should be able to fairly easily see where they go to.  You may need 

a mirror as shiny as those walls look.
