[Vwdiesel] CCV oil catch

It is still best in my opinion to still get rid of the EGR as it is still dumping carbon into your intake and wearing out the engine just a bit faster. But that is a topic for another day as some don't agree with it.

As far as the CCV you can do a few things. Some have talked on tdiclub about piping it into the exhaust to vacuum it out. I have seen this done on pulling tractors with a lot of success. No one with a TDI has done it that I know of. The other options are you can plug the hole and "elephant hose" it which is dumping anything straight to the ground. If you park in the same place every day you will start to get a black spot there from the oil. I don't really like it as it is open to atmosphere and there is always a chance things could go back up into the system. Putting a filter on it could freeze up. The other way is put a strainer in the loop. The ALH engine had someone that put an "old navy CCV" on there. It basically replaced the "puck" that is suppose to separate the oils out. The insides are normally gone on the ALH so a person changed things up with good luck on it. You can still use a water strainer from a tractor supply store in line like I did though on my BEW. I just put the filter behind the radiator and ran the hoses to it. It is the low spot in the loop so things flow to it and don't flow out as well. The screen is big enough not to freeze but small enough to get the oil out of the air. You will need to change the Oring to an oil one as the water one will expand after using it for the first time and opening up. The only ways to get all the oil from going back to the intake though are the first two methods. Some no matter what if routed back to the intake will get there. Just not as much. Without the egr you won't have the carbon buildup though and the catch will help prevent a posible ice build up in the intercooler.
