Just went through a bunch of that discussion earlier this year when 
rebuilding a 454.  I kept being told cams go flat, you have to use  roller 
rockers.  FINALLY got a why, and it was the ZDDP.  Some said use  it 
every change, some said use it for break in mostly as that is when it's 
really critical.  Made much more sense than "all big block chevy cams 
go flat."
