[Vwdiesel] A3 "ignition" switch

Well, I have a couple knife switches I'm not using, and could spot you a
fair size chunk of smooth but unpolished slate. My steam gauges all have
homes, sorry.
I have a special screwdriver. You just light one end, and it removes any
screw when you press the handle.
Are you sure it isn't a torx, or XZN (triple square)? Surprising they would
get ignorant.
Find out what it is, I'll throw a bit in the mail Sandy, I can pretty much
guarantee I have it.
I have an enormous bit set that has every screw drive made in it.

<The ign sw on my 94 A3 is getting intermittent and needs a transfusion of
yak fat or guanno to freshen it up.>
Thanks to all who responded.
I did find an explaination on the web with great photos, and you might
expect that, in the best Teutonic tradition, they have engineered what
was a simple 5 min. replacement in the A2, into an impossibility in the A3.
Looks like I remove a couple of bolts at the U-joint, disconnect ALL the
switches, then pull out the entire wheel, shaft, lock, switch assembly,
and bearings.
Then it's almost possible to get at the screw holding the switch inside
the rear of the cylinder casting, BUT IT'S ON THE INSIDE NEXT TO THE
STEERING SHAFT!
A cleverly crafted "special screwdriver" is required to reach and remove
the screw! (VW special tool # VW-XXXXXXXX?)
I should replace the entire dash with a polished slate panel embellished
with some beautiful polished brass and copper knife switches and brass
steam gauges!
Merry Christmas all,
Sandy,
VE3AAC
