I'll tell you what...  I'll replace the whole kit and kaboodle for $1425.
That's easy money!

My pulley snapped last year some time.  It was $60 for a new one, $30 for
the special tool to remove it, and after I tried to get the damn thing to
budge, $40 in labor to swap it and put the new belt on.

6 months after that, the alternator died.  I bought a reman Bosch unit at
Advance Auto Parts for ~$300.  It didn't come with the pulley, but I had my
new one!  I pulled the pulley off the old, stuck it on the new, and R&R'd
the whole thing.

Getting all that stuff apart and off really isn't that hard.  They are
completely bending you over and taking you for nearly $1K.

If you want to do it yourself, there's tons of info at tdiclub.com about
this very subject.  Don't let the dealer rip you off!
