Well fresh start today and tried the puller with air chisel on the flat of the nut. No difference. So thinking the only part I need to be carefull of is the mounting bracket. Well got out the sledge hammer and a chisel I use to cut bluestone, heavy weight and a slim enough chisel to fit between the mount and sprocket. About ten minutes of beating on a car like i never had before did it. Wish I could post pics here but I cracked a couple of spokes gouged and beat the rest so bad it got my message. Did make quite a crack sound when it broke free.
More bad news, the one pump I have has a really lot of play on the drive shaft, I won't even measure it is so bad. I figure it was off my 86 Jetta when about 425K. The car at that time just stopped on the hill to my house one night and was so worn it was just sucking air around it. So digging in my store room (for the spare sprocket) I found a 107 yellow dot pump I remember someone at job I was on gave me so no known history of it. All shafts are rock solid but I will reseal this as I have the kit and pump on the bench. The only thing is the cold start lever has resistance going to the on position but only returns to the off position after I rotate the drive shaft using the lever to check. Does this sound right.
I'm opening it up so I will see if it is still clean inside with no sort of corrosion.
Thanks everyone for the advice and a place to sort of vent out frustration.
Terry

Subject: [Vwdiesel] Still fighting my IP
Two plus days of fighting with this injection pump. Well off and on but still
running out of ideas. I just can't get the cog pulley off. On this Kubvan there
is only two inches between the pulley and the side panel. I tried going from
wood wedges to home made puller and than onto more violent methods but the dang
thing will not release. I know the pump must have been off once before by a PO
as the retaining bracket for the inner and lower mounting bolt was not under the
rear bolt. I guess the shaft/pulley bolt was over torqued and this thing is
really planted on the taper.
I made a puller and was able to really put some pulling pressure on it and took
a long punch and hammer to a flat on the bolt still not budging.
Even if I pulled the motor the only change in attack would be a straight hit on
the drive shaft. I have already beat up the pulley so bad I'll need the spare I
have. I also think heat is not an option as the idea of using a torch in a tight
area on a diesel soaked pump. At this time pump and pulley are disposable.
Any other ideas?
TIA - Terry
