[Vwdiesel] Nozzles?

How many miles on the engine Dave? Could be valve seals. When it sits, oil
gets past the stems, makes a bit of a collection, then you get a puff of
smoke on startup.
Nozzles usually are a consistent loss of mileage with no power loss, or even
a gain in power and smoke on acceleration (bigger hole lets more fuel in
quicker, hence the power and smoke thing) Key point is it's more a
degradation of performance from the efficiency end of things, not so much a
power thing. Many people actually experience a loss of power using seat
dyno technology when they put in fresh injectors, as old ones are generally
overfueling.
I get the occasional bad tank too, it happens. lots less than it used to,
but years ago I used to HAVE to carry a can of remedial stanadyne on a long
trip with my 82na jetta. get a bad tank, the loss of a few hp in that was a
smoky, overheating, annoying pita until adding the fuel conditioner. It's
not nearly such a big deal with the electronic engines.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] Nozzles?

I have an '02 Golf TDI w/5-speed.

I've noticed that upon cold-engine startup (and sometimes with warm engine),
even in warm weather, a puff of smoke.

Mixed use driving since January has yielded a pretty consistent 39-40 MPGs
except for one rogue 35 MPG tank when I filled up at a different station.

I have not noticed any smoke while driving, or idling.

The puff of smoke and slightly lower than expected mileage combined with
232,000 miles makes me wonder about the nozzles.

What do you all think?  Recommendations?  Possibly a small upgrade?
