hey all
just bought a 2001 Jetta w 138k, has some issues, would love some guesses before I tackle:

1. fuel supply
PO parks it facing nose-down b/c he says when parked flat or uphill it won't start (or starts hard)
he says air in the fuel line somewhere
I'm thinking fuel tank something? but looks like he already replaced the fuel sender (there's an extra (used) one in the parts bag that came with the car)

2. rear brakes
seized up whenever you set the parking brake, goes away after you drive it for a while
assuming e-brake cables, more likely than calipers?
car bought in Falmouth, MA - sea air for at least last several years

3. timing belt noise
I haven't heard it myself, but PO says sounds like a roller or tensioner is going
dealer did the TB 25k ago, and they serviced it recently when he brought it in with the noise - their report says upper TB cover hitting one of the pulleys 'by vibration', repositioned correctly, noise gone - according to PO this is bull, still an issue - he says noise disappears for a while when he sprays belt dressing on it
my instinct is to just go ahead and re-do entire TB

I have only driven the car a couple miles to test - slight boost leak I think I heard, but otherwise feels solid and peppy - I have not owned long enough to confirm any of this behavior, other than seized brakes (AAA guy set it before I could stop him) and very slight hard start after sitting slight uphill overnight (about 1 sec crank instead of chick-vroom like my Golf)

thoughts on any of this?
thanks very much,

Rolf in MA
