[Vwdiesel] It's summer, therefore my a/c has died

You found that pressure with the engine cold and not running? That just
verifies that you have some refrigerant in there, not that you actually
have enough. The vapor pressure stays the same whether you have a little
liquid or a lot. You need to know the working pressures. If it never wants
to run at all then my first step would be to find the low pressure cut-out
switch and jumper it out and see if it will run that way. If it runs for a
bit then stops, check the high pressure switch. (Assuming it has one.)

Good luck!
