[Vwdiesel] It's summer, therefore my a/c has died

I was casting about trying to find out about the low pressure switch on the web. I have the Bentley CD, but it doesn't run at all on my Linux system. I found a diagnostic guide and in there a mention that one of the fuses on top of the battery that runs the a/c system frequently gets corroded and fails to conduct. So, I pulled the appropriate fuse, cleaned the contacts and the a/c came back to life! Terribly pleased. At the moment I don't have time to really take the car apart and while I'm glad that it's going to rain here this week, not much worse than the day after a rain in Texas. Goes right back to 100+F and has 100% humidity to nail you with too.
So, there you go, in case that information can help anyone. I hope, however, that everyone's staying cool in their rides.

You found that pressure with the engine cold and not running? That just verifies that you have some refrigerant in there, not that you actually have enough. The vapor pressure stays the same whether you have a little liquid or a lot. You need to know the working pressures. If it never wants to run at all then my first step would be to find the low pressure cut-out switch and jumper it out and see if it will run that way. If it runs for a bit then stops, check the high pressure switch. (Assuming it has one.)
Good luck!

Every summer, the a/c dies in my 00 TDI. That's because it's 100º F out there.
