Parking brake cables on quattros

Is it just me that has had a problem with the parking brake cables on
quattros?

On 100% of my quattros (all two of them ;-) has the outer sleeve of
the cable split due to corrosion. The first was an '85 200tq that had
around 135000 km at the time I got it, and I had to replace the cables
immediately. Yesterday I removed the cables on my '90 100tq (76000 km)
and they had also split. I can't remember any of my other cars I have
had (including two fwd Audis) during the last the 20 years that has
had bad cables.

The weak spot seems to be a rubber bushing that holds the cable to the
rear end. Both cables sleeves had split inside this bushing.
