Like Bob, I too have found the 4000q's additional power to be offset by the
added weight of the car ... likewise, I found the handling (on an autocross
course) to be heavy and ponderous as compared to my 4-cyl 4000.
I've driven several '84s, an '85 and an '87, and each of them felt the same:
sluggish and slow, as did the '81 4000 5+5 I once tried. Mind you, I really
like these cars (for street use, anyway) so go easy with the flames...

P.S.: For the record, my 4-cyl 4000s are also sluggish and slow -- hence the
reason I'm building an EP BMW 530i -- but IMO, the 4000q is even more so...
