Compressor bypass valve
All,
Last week, someone mentioned a bypass valve from Saab that had worked on
their Quattro. I checked it out at the Saab dealer on the latest Saab turbo.
It is awfully small and, yes, it is 35 bucks for a cheap little plastic valve.
Is this valve actually big enough? Does the turbo not need much flow capacity
when it is recirculating? I am going to look at an HKS (~$50.00-$100.00) or
Trust piece, since they are larger diameter, and they also have a "vacuum" port
on the bottom side of the diaphraghm that can be plumbed ahead of the throttle.
This short burst of high pressure helps to flip the valve quickly.
Would an electric solenoid actuated valve be better? You could trigger
it with a closed-throttle switch. It would be very fast!
On the weekend, my father hit a deer with his '86 5KTQ, and it probably
will "total" his car. The front right headlight, fender and driver's door were
smacked. The driver's glass was shattered. It is amazing how quickly they can
total a car because Audi parts prices are through the roof. It's a shame
because we just put alot of work and money into the car(Koni, Eibach, etc).
Hopefully, if they do total it, Dad can buy it back for a reasonable sum, and
repair it with the insurance money.
