Re: RPM Limiter
I have a question about how the rev limite works. Ony my '84 4000sq when
I hit the redline, the car bucks pretty hard. Not an elegant rev limiter
in my book... I read here on the net it is caused by fuel pump shutoff.
Is this really true? If the fuel pump is cut off, I still have plenty in
the lines and accumulator. To me it felt like ignition cutoff (Although I
never checked my tach at that point to see if it bounces...)
Dunno 'bout 4000SQ, but if it has Fuel Injection, you have a virtually
instantaneous engine stop when you shut off the fuel pump. While there
is still a lot of fuel in the system, it is no longer at the 90psi or
so that it takes to operate the injectors. I would guess you have on the
order of half-a-dozen injectors' squirts worth of pressure at best once
the pump shuts off . . .
Carburettors, on the other hand, hold a LOT of fuel in their float bowls,
easily many many seconds' worth of running (at progressivly-leaner mix-
tures).
