         VOLKSWAGEN POSTS BEST U.S. SALES MONTH IN FIVE YEARS;
                       HALF-YEAR TOTAL UP 18 PERCENT
  
         AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Volkswagen of America, Inc.
         reported U.S. sales of 13,916 for the month of June,
         representing a 37 percent increase over last year?s June
         figure of 10,177.  The 1995 mark was Volkswagen?s highest
         monthly sales total in half a decade.
              In the first six months of 1995, Volkswagen?s sales
         rose by 18 percent to 59,227, as compared to 1994?s
         half-year mark of 50,083.
              Volkswagen?s June 1995 figure was the best monthly
         sales figure it has posted in the U.S. since June 1990.
              The automaker?s sales surge in June was led by its
         popular Jetta model, which recorded sales of 8,968 for the
         month, an increase of 32 percent over the same period last
         year.  The Jetta is the best-selling European nameplate
         sold in the U.S.
