Here in Phoenix, with the engine rpm above 2000 or so, after stabilising (15
minutes or so), discharge air temp will range down to 40F (@100-110F ambient).
At idle, temps raise to as high as 60F, depending. 60F does not feel like much
cooling when bright sun is shining thorugh the windows.
The loud "clong" should be the compressor cycling on and off (I don't think you have
any control valves which can cycle). But, on most cars it is not that loud.
Take it in and have the AC system checked - even with a dark blue exterior, and
145,000 miles, my '88 90Q works quite well, even in Phoenix.
