4000 fan in a 5000
FYI, a 4000 fan/shroud CAN be made to fit in a 5000 in a pinch ... mounting
it upside down (so the fan motor is toward the center of the car) allows it
to *just* fit. I left the bottom shroud bolts in place but since the holes
don't line up, the shroud just sits on them; up top, I used one of the 5000
shroud mounting holes in the radiator to clamp an edge of the shroud with a
large flat washer. Also had to wire up an adapter to allow the 5000's ring
terminals to mate with the 4000 fan's plastic connector but so far, so good
(unfortunately, my replacement fan hasn't arrived and with the temp hitting
120 degrees (!) yesterday, I was forced to do something...)
