I remember having heard that one can order just about any type of car
here is Sweden for export. I assume one could order a US spec Audi and
ship to the US.

Sweden and Italy seems to be the countries to buy cars in nowadays. A
newspaper had compared the price of some cars in the EC countries and
Sweden and Italy was the lowest, probably due to their weak currencies
and that both contries manufacture cars. The most expensive country
was Austria with a difference of about 40%!

Cars bought in Sweden for export are also tax exempt. Sales tax is
25%, so this would account for a big part of the cost.
