Confused Newbie alert
Ok, the search for an Audi thickens, many questions.
1. How many miles should I expect an Audi to truely last? I refering to
the '86ish 5 cyl turbos and non-turbos.
2. Is there much that can be done to increase the power of NA 5 cyl?
I test drove a '86 4000q on Monday. It was alright, but pretty gutless. A
couple of things wrong with it. The owners wanted $4100 for it. 115K
miles. Pretty firm on the price.
Today I test drove an '86 5000CS. Fully loaded except for heated seats.
Non-turbo and an automatic. 132K miles. Black car in pretty good
condition. Interesting to note that it had "bbs-ish" rims like on the 100's
and 90Q's. 14 inch size though. Very nice, but again, pretty gutless. He
wanted ~$3500 for it. The guy runs a golf course and sells a couple cars at
a time on the side. Had two 100's and the 5000. He also had an '81 MB
500SEL imported from Germany for himself. Without any emissions (yes, it is
certified in the US), he says it "goes like stink" but gets 10 mpg. Hmmm,
no wonder it stinks. I explained to him that I was really looking for a
turbo model, specifically the quattro. He said he ran into one once, and
now his daughter drives it. I proceed to ask him alot of questions about
it. He was unsure about selling it though. He says his wife would probably
disagree with him selling it because of the quattro, winter time, and
safety, or something to that extent. I told him what could be more safer
than a fwd, underpowered Audi:) Little harder to get into trouble with the
FWD in the snow. I might make an offer on it anyways, depends on the rates
the insurance agent can give me tommorow :)
Last question- What do you think the previously described Audi is worth in
pretty good shape. Engine ran a little rough but, otherwise just fine. How
about a '86 5KCSQT with ~ 130K miles?
Sorry about all the questions and long post, hopefully I can contribute
something to the list in the near future.
