Re: Bumping cam on a NA 2.2?

Yes, bumping cam timing does increase combustion temps..... highly suggest
the 80C thermostat @ 13.00, and from what mr spiers indicates, is a common
euroapp available at NAPA even...... Does it help your car..... Would guess
so, but a try is about only 20minutes away, and less to put it back.......

I only have tested the advantages in the 2 87 5ktq's in my house (tho,
haven't had a car yet that didn't get some adv - GLH Turbo race and 2 VW
scirocco - 1 race/1street)..... On the 5ktq, you will lose some HP, but you
make up for it in throttle response and torque sooner, and tho Ned has his
doubts, I can tell you my Vericom gave the overwhelming yes and even the
G-analyst said yessir..... BTW, Franco industries actually makes the cats
meow, a centrifical advancing cam gear that adv to mid rpm then retards at hi
rpm, and that's exactly what you want..... And I know one VERY tweeked TQC
that swears by it (Warning: BARB -Big Audi Ring Bucks)......

Me, I'm just a dumb practical engineer.... I can listen to a lot of folks
with some pretty ineresting theories as to why it's not a good idea, me, I
say try it, if nothing else you will know how to take that dorky cover off
the cam gear..... And to those of you with Ned's boxes, if you don't give
it a try, you are definitely missing a quick upgrade to his..... NJTH.....
