Which Synthetic??? was Re: Dino juice

I've been using Mobil  15W50 in my 4 valve motors for the past 8 years(20V COUPE Q, 16V Scirocco.  I had thought about trying the Castrol syntec, but based upon my attempts on running Mobil 1-10w30 during the winter and the resulting valve noise, I decided to stay with the 15w50.


The Mobil 1 is periodically on sale for <$3.50/qt vs the Syntec, which is usually close to $4.00.  Amsoil and Synthoil are significantly more expensive.

Mixing the Mobil 1 with Dino won't be a problem.  I have on rare occasions left the mobil 1 in the car for 7k miles.  It still has a less gritty feel and better viscosity than Dino juice at 3k miles.


PS> If you decide to take advantage of the longer oil change periods possible with synthetic oil, I highly recommend that you still change the oil filter at 3k, and top off the pan.
