Kyle,
I have the same problem on my 86 Coupe and what it is is the exhaust 
manifold has a leak and the noise will go away when the car warms up. 
This was a problem on the five cylinder Audis. I have heard of a way 
that they can fix the problem without replacing it. I am not sure of 
the process but my mechanic has done it before on other coupes. I am 
sure there are others on the board that know exactly what I am 
talking about.
