Fuel Pump Change
With the help of some info from the archives (posted by Scott Mockery) I
put a new fuel pump in my 87kCSTQ today. The buzzing from the old pump has
been geting louder and louder over the past two years, and it was finally
at the point where people would turn and look when I drove past. The new
pump (a Bosch) cost $163 at Halsey Imports in Portland. The job is
relatively straight forward, although working inside the trunk is both
awkward and literally a pain. I ran the tank down to the point where the
warning beep sounded before opening it up. I was a little amazed with how
little gas was left in the tank. Only about 1/3 of the pump was still
below the surface of the fuel. After this, I'll fill up before the tank
gets so low, and maybe the new pump will last longer (although this one
went 114k miles).
