Greetings Adam!

I hate to burst your bubble, but I think that the problem will be obvious
if you sit a 5-cyl equipped Audi next to your Jetta and open the hoods.
I seriously doubt that your gonna be able to squeeze that extra cylinder
in with the transverse configuration of the VW. You'd probably have
a better chance of shoe-horning a VR6 engine into your car ... I'll bet
even that would be an expensive proposition. For a more budget conscious
(HA!) solution, a 16V motor from a GTI might be a good candidate, or you
might be able to find some kind of turbo solution from New Dimensions
(rats ... I mentioned another vendor's name). I don't remember seeing
anything mentioned in there about upgrades for a Jetta, but you might want
to review past issues of European Car in the "Getting Technical" column to
see if some else has requested similar information. As a matter of fact,
I may have Greg Raven's e-mail address laying around, send me a direct
e-mail request if you'd like me to try to scare it up ...

Now that I think about it, VW did have a 5-cyl in the Quantum ... and the
vintages are about the same, but I don't know if it is possible to substi-
tute the longitunal 5 under the hood of the transverse 4 ...
