My first offering to the Gods
I just figured I'd ask if this qualifies as my first offering to the Audi
gods:
I had just bought (5 months ago) my 92 100S from an Audi dealer, and within
the first day or so (I guess I didn't notice it on the test drive? Or was it
the Gremlins that welcomed me on my first few days of ownership?), the auto
transmission felt like it was slipping/hesitating when shifting into second
gear. I brought it back to the dealer, who at first said their tech did not
feel it when he first drove it (naturally), but after driving it again, for a
bit longer than a spin around the block, he felt something wasn't right.
Well, to make a long story short, they had my car a week, after deciding to
replace the entire tranny! They didn't want to spend the time/effort to tear
down the old one to "try" to figure out the problem. So, I ended up with a
new tranny in a car with 49k miles on it.
Luckily, this was a warranty cure. The new tranny's price was a staggering
$5K!!!
So, if I didn't pay for it, did the Gods really recognize my offering? Or am
I still a virgin in their eyes, waiting to make the sacrificial "CHA - CHING"
in the collection plate?
On a serious note, what do you think would cause this tranny to do this,
after only 49k miles? Can I expect failure again at 98k miles? Or did they
just take the "easy" route, since it was under warranty (i.e. have BIG
BROTHER pick up the tab)?
So far, this has been all that the Gods have requested. (I hope I'm not
jinxing myself; are they listening?) By the sounds of it from you all, I
should plan to make periodic offerings. I am saving my pennies...... and
building patience......
