WRT - quickly flashing turn signals ...

The same flasher unit is used for both directions, if only one is
flashing quickly then the flasher unit is not the source of the
problem.  It sounds like you have an intermittent load or unload 
situation occurring.  The problem may be completely unrelated to 
your shelving event ... check to see if perhaps one of the other
bulbs is intermittent and also check to see that the wiring to
the front signal has not been affected.
