Well, my '92 100S has the 2.8 V6, and it's not THAT bad! Yes, I agree that it
is underpowered in today's market, but this car still has a decent
combination of power, handling, and ride that is better than many other
choices out in the market. It definitely will not win any stoplight races,
but this car was built for the highways, and it does that well. And since I
drive mostly on the highway, I am satisfied. Of course, I'd be MORE than
satisfied if it had more low-end grunt and 30 more hp.
The way I look at it (and the rationale I had for buying it), I would rather
own this three year old Audi than buy a brand new Honda Accord (ie.
too-popular and boring), Toyota Camry (ie same as the Honda) or Ford Taurus
(ie. Hertz rental). I paid less than any one of these cars, and I don't have
to worry about the new-car depreciation. And besides, most people don't know
that it is three years old (it is in great shape), and usually assume that I
spent $34-36k for it new (I paid half that!).
I get a lot of comments re: "OHHH, you drive an Audi!!! Must be nice to have
money...".
Well, they just don't get it. I just smile as they get into their
dime-a-dozen Honda!
I'm sure that Audi won't disappoint us. The A6 and A4 will get more power.
But, in the meantime, cruzin' at 80 mph+ effortlessly will HAVE to do.
