Re: Questions about 5KCSQT

I too own an '88 5kCSTQ with about the same milage. I think I can answer
some of your questions.

           1. My brake light comes on every once in a while, but just for a sec
ond or so. I had the brakes checked and they are fine, and the fluid levels ar
e fine too....so I tend to think it's a fluke in the system. If it stays on fo
r a long while there is probably a problem. I know mine are fine because I had
the pads and rotors replaced throughout the car, and had the brake lines draine
d about 6 months ago.

           2. Contrary to what the Fram guide says, there is only one oil filte
r on your car. The older model turbos had 2 filters, but our turbos are water
cooled rather than oil cooled. I made the same mistake the first time I change
d my oil too. I used to use Fram, but I reccomend the Bosch OEM oil filter....
will say "For Audi Turbo Cars" on it. They run $3-4 at your local import parts
place, or Audi repair shop. They are less if you buy in bulk.

           3. I think 20W50 motor oil would be fine. My mechanic told me that
he thought it would be a good idea if I switched to synthetic, so I did. I use
Castrol Syntec 5W50 motor oil, and have been happy with it. I still change my
oil every 3K-3,500 miles, although I've heard you can go up to 5k miles on synt
hetic. I just like to have clean oil in there though.

           4. About the memory for the drivers seat. I have owned my car for a
year and have yet to figure this out. No one else really drives my car, so it
's not abig deal, but it would be nice to have working. The owners manual is r
eal vague on how this works, although there might be something wrong with mine.
Maybee someone else can shed some light on this one.

           5. The reset on the computer resets all the gas milage, and avg spee
d on the trip computer. It is a good idea to reset your trip computer after yo
u fill up with gas for true MPG, but it can be reset at any time (I think). Th
e bar shows the manifold pressure. I like the trip time on long drives...it le
ts me know when I've been on the road for 2 hrs, than 4, etc....it tells you af
ter every 2 hrs and says, "now might be a good time to take a break."

     Hope this helped.
