I was *this* close to buying a mint, low-mileage '91 BMW M3 this week -- I
know, I know, heresy and all that... -- but when I realized that licensing
and insuring it would cost me $135/mo. on top of a $396.71 pmt, I couldn't
bring myself to do it. Throw in a bit of maintenance and repair and it'll
run at least $600/mo., which is just too damn much money to spend on a car
that's still depreciating. Even factoring in $2200 worth of modifications
and $6-7k worth of depreciation on top of all the repairs and maintenance,
my '87 5k has only cost me a little more than half that per month over the
five years I've had it ... including the gas to drive 18k miles per year!
