Help Idle Chit-Chat 20vNA

Hello-

My 91 coupe has been exhibiting some troubling behavior (misbehavior, really).

Yesterday morning (ambient temp. 18dF), it would not start, although it
turned over vigorously. It simply wouldn't 'catch'. After 10 cranks or so,
I managed to start it by working the throttle while cranking. As soon as I
let off the throttle, the engine died. It would not idle.

On the way to the mechanic, I had to keep the revs up to keep the engine
lit. After running the car for a couple minutes (the heaters came on) the
car would idle by itself, but it oscillated between 1k and 1.2kRPM.

Of course, by the time I reached the mechanic (30 minutes), it no longer
exhibited either the stalling or the oscillating idle. The mechanic checked
a few connections and sent me on my way, telling me that anything he
'fixed' would be pure guesswork on his part if the symptoms were not
present.

This morning (30dF), my car started with the oscillating idle problem, then
ran fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Rob
