I would say the sears die hard WAS good, but they have since been taken 
over by Exide. I have not had a lot of good luck with exide, both mine 
died EXACTLY on the 11 month mark. Since it was a 5 year (I think) 
battery, it wasnt a problem, they replaced it, but still. The old sears 
die hards were terrific. Not sure who made them back then though.

To be more accurate, Sears placed their new contract with Exide,
not with Johnson Controls, who has made them for as long as
anyone remembers.  Truth is, cost concerns have driven everyone to
reduce the mass of the lead grid, causing premature failures of
a sudden nature.  (snap!)  I am still buying (er renting) them :-)
