Turbo problem, S4
Hi all,
Got into a problem the other day, and hope some of you out there can help me
determine what to do. The car is a '93 S4 2,2 20V Turbo wagon. It has 70K
Kilometers (43.5K miles) on the meter.
What happened is that the turbo pressure suddenly "stabilized" itself on 1.1
bar. :-(
I don't know exactly when this happened, since I had the average fuel
consumption on the display, and switched over to turbo pressure during a
takeover. Then I noticed it. I couldn't make it go either up or down, regardless
of rpm. It was 1.1 bar even on idle. A couple of times it also displayed 1.0
bar. It feels like the turbo don't work at all, since there is noticeable less
power at high revs.
Suspecting I could make things even worse using the car, I drove it to a Audi
dealer that could look at it immediately yesterday. They took a readout of the
error log. There where 5 errors logged (translated from Norwegian, might not be
the correct English terms):
1. 65535
Control unit defective
2. 00519
Intake manifold pressure sensor-G71
Weak signal
Randomly occurring error
3. 00515
Hallgiver-G40 (the word means nothing to me, not translated)
Basic adjustment error
Randomly occurring error
4. 0519
Intake manifold pressure sensor-G71
Regulation difference
Randomly occurring error
5. 65535
Control unit defective
Randomly occurring error
The words HOHENESTER SPORT GAIMERSHEIM1 is printed on the top of the error log
printout. I guess this is the company that made/mod'ed my chip??
After resetting the error log, the #1 error came back immediately, telling that
the control unit is defective. As far as the dealer could tell, there were no
leaking hoses. I think it sounds like the turbo is running, and the dealer
agreed with that. They did not measure the actual turbo pressure. I didn't want
them to do anything more at the moment, since I find them very expensive and not
very skilled. They relaxed me saying chances of making any other damage by using
the car was minimal.
An additional information; It has been extremely cold the last week, together
with high air humidity. Temperatures from minus 17 to 23 degrees C in my area
(1.4 to minus 9.5 Fahrenheit), and even then very slippery roads due to the
humidity. Could this have anything to do with my problem? The car is parked
outdoors.
So, I would really appreciate it if anyone could tell me what to do now....
Freeeezing Thanx,
