Re: S6 question
Looks like Steve Powers and others have confirmed that recent 95 S6s
have at least some of the features of the other 96 audis, like EDL
and the new wider radio.
EDL sounds nice, and I'd like to have a radio with RDS,
but the other new for 96 feature that I really wish my 95 had
is one-touch-up operation of the front windows.
I went so far as to ask at a local dealership if this was something
that could be retrofitted. The answer, as expected, was (paraphrased):
we asked Audi, and they say that you'd have to change out the
window regulators, and the switches, and the control module,
so it would get really expensive to retrofit this to your car.
I'm a little bit dubious. I've got an uncle in Italy with a '92 Audi 80
that has one-touch-up on the driver's window. So I reason that if
a plain European 80 from 92 has window regulators that support
one touch up, surely the regulators on a 95 100(A6) would also.
How many different regulators can they have? Wouldn't it cost too much
to make up a separate part just for the US market?
So, does anyone have enough connections to find out exactly what
I have to do to get my 95 A6q's front windows to do the one-touch-up
trick like the new 96's do? If it makes any difference in cost, it
would be ok to me to just make this change to the driver's window.
PS. I really am lusting after RDS on my radio.
Right now, Columbus OH only has station that broadcasts RDS, but I expect
this to grow soon. When it does, I plan to buy a european-spec Sony
cassette-radio with RDS to replace the Audi gamma radio. It's be a bummer
to give up the dash display, but I guess I can live with it to get RDS
and cd changer controls on the radio.
