5K Quad Lights

I'm following the light thread with interest. Scott and (I forget
whom) have a wonderful question - will the 4-rectangular headlight
setup from the early 5K series fit in our later 100/200 series?

I would LOVE to hear from someone who actually tries this. It would
seem that one could pick up the headlight mounting assemblies from a
trashed 5K for a reasonable price - and I KNOW that superior lights
are available for the 4x rectangular light series. I once owned a
Chevy with the 4-rectangular light setup, and I put Hella non-sealed
beam lights in for the high beams. WOW! The light output was
impressive and easy to aim properly!

That would be a simple, elegant solution. Therefore, there must be
some problem with it, right??????? (These are Audis, remember..)

I have been wondering if one couldn't use the original big fat
headlights from the later 100/200 series for molds, cast a fiberglass
piece to go in the hole so it would mount like the original lamp
casing, and then insert other headlights into the casting. I recall
that Jeff (AudiDudi) was going to play with something like this, but it
sure would be one heckuva lot more work than retrofitting a
5K series setup.

If someone tries the 4-light setup, please post to the list!!!! If it works, all
of us long-suffering types can go out and raid "previously used parts
yards" for headlight stuff....
