Oil Filters

Question #1: DON'T pay this for a filter. If you want the best
filter available, IMHO, find an Amsoil dealer and buy one. If you
doubt whether their filter is superior, ask to see their literature.
The filtration material is about 1" thick, as compared to
conventional filters with 1/8" filter paper for filtration. The
Amsoil filter is light-years ahead of others, and won't cost you $21
- more like $9.

Question #2: My *opinion* is that if the oil manufacturer didn't put
it into the oil, either I don't need it - or I need to find an oil
which has it as part of the original chemistry. Oil chemistry is a
very sophisticated subject and adding various glops (or is it
glopii?) to your oil is very unlikely to improve things. (Although
if Bob Meyer decided to squeeze a few of those Marvel snakes into his
car, I'd love to hear whether his lifters shuddup...). If you want
good oil, run a good synthetic.

If you want a thorough review of synthetic oils and related issues,
do a web search for such words as "Redline" or "Amsoil". (Plug
here!!...) I wrote the FAQ on synthetics for the Datsun/Nissan Internet
Z-car club. If you want to read it, you can find their home page at :
http://www.cs.princeton.edu/~snd/z-car/
And the synthetic oil FAQ link can be found on that page. I think it
would answer your questions about oils and filters.
