Window Problems in 89 200
As far as your window problem is concerned. After verifying that the related fuses are OK you should
check connections at the switch and you might want to check the wiring that goes into the drivers door
and check the same on the passenger door for any breaks etc. The window switche contacts also get
dirty and the switch can be disassembled and cleaned if you are patient. (It might help to be a practicing
neuro-surgeon)
I have seen the window regulator cable system self destruct before on my older 5000CST that uses the
same design. Usually the plastic cable guide going into the motor snaps and then the cable loses tension
and then falls off the pully. The window makes a crunching sound when it is raised or lowered "for
awhile" until the cable shreds itself and gets tangled up around the take up pully in the regulator motor.
The door panel in the 89 200 can be removed without too much pain. There are some recessed allen bolts
underneath the arm rest. Loosen these allen bolts and then the whole arm rest will pull off (with a little
encouragement). There are two phillip screws at the top of the door panel and another one under the arm
rest after it comes off. The sides and bottom of the door panel have plastic clips that will pop loose with
careful application of a thin flat bladed screwdriver between the door panel and the door. It helps to
remove the lock button (Unscrew with a little force) as well. Once the bottome/side clips are popped
out the door panel can be raised up slightly and off it comes.
I am also waiting for a manual for my 89 200 so I can not give you any wiring details yet. Good Luck

Subject: electric window lift on my '89 200
Hello fellas ( ladies if you are here)
A couple weeks ago I posted a query about a '89 200
I was contemplating on buying in the Seattle area. Well, yes I did
buy the car at $11.8 K. Have enjoyed it for two weeks when the
this afternoon my front passenger side window went down
but refused to go back up.
