Rear Caliper Rebuild
Latest adventures: Last weekend I replaced the rotors
and pads on my 1990 200. I used Repco Metal-Masters for the pads,
and stock rotors.
NOTE: this car does NOT use a 12mm socket to turn the piston in. It
has a piston with two v-shaped notches 180 degrees apart. (I now
have a nice shiny Proto 12mm hex socket-bit which cost me $15 which
evidently will remain shiny...)
At any rate, I tried to turn the pistons back in using water pump
pliers - and of course, caught the piston dust boot and made a small
hole in it!! So this weekend, I will have to take that caliper out and
rebuild it. (BTW - when this happened, I used all the colorful and
appropriate language at my disposal, then went out and bought a bench
grinder at my favorite hock shop, along with a couple of old large
sockets - then ground a socket down to make a tool with ears which
fit the v-notches - like I SHOULD have done in the first place. This
made turning the pistons back in easy.)
Do those on this learned list have any advice on making this a fast
and safe job - in addition to instructions I find in my Bentley?
Please reply directly to me if you wish......and TIA.
